Aloha Friends, Family, and DreamHouse Supporters!

This past Saturday, an engaging group of 5th - 8th graders got together to (a) learn about the mo'olelo of 3 different ahupua'a, (b) make a positive impact on the sites they visited, and (c) work together to perpetuate the lessons and stories the past.

From Hoa 'Āina to Camp Pālehua to Nā Mea Kūpono, children brought with them curiosity and energy, partnering with and learning from cultural practitioners and community leaders from across O'ahu.  They then headed to Hawaii Tokai International College's auditorium for the afternoon for lunch (from Da Spot) and to workshop.  They  built plans engage and empower others in taking care of the history and culture of our island.

On a 5-point Likert scale - 1 being the least, 5 the most - we asked our children before the day: Do you know a story in your community?  Beginning of day average: 2.79.  End of day average: 4.71.

We asked: Are you responsible for leading Hawai'i's future?  Beginning of day: 3.46.  End of day: 4.71.

Our programming is innovative and iterative; we listen to and engage with our children as partners and as leaders of their own developmental journey.  We are proud of what they have accomplished, and hopeful for the future ahead.

The next DreamHouse workshop is a partnership alongside of HawaiiKidsCAN, a local non-profit focused on advocacy and equity among our islands' schools.  We will be co-hosting the Fall 2018 Leadership & Empowerment Workshop at Hawaii Tokai International College on Saturday, October 27th from 8AM - 4PM.  We welcome children in upper elementary and middle school grades who would like to engage in a day of learning, development, and fun.  Sign up goes live on Tuesday (9/18) at www.DreamHouseEwaBeach.org and Eventbrite (Search "Fall 2018 Leadership & Empowerment Workshop).
